What is the difference between extruded and isostatic graphite?

Graphite material is an excellent industrial material with excellent performance and a wide range of uses. For example, its high thermal conductivity, low friction and chemical resistance. There are many types of graphite blocks. We can divide them into extruded graphite blocks and isostatic graphite blocks according to their production methods. Let's explain the differences between them in the following content!
First, according to the molding method, extruded graphite blocks are produced by forcing a mixture of graphite and binder through a die. The graphite blocks molded in this way have a uniform crystal structure and are isotropic products. Isostatic graphite blocks are made by applying high pressure to graphite powder in a die.
Secondly, in terms of characteristics, the density of extruded graphite blocks is higher than that of isostatic graphite blocks, with lower porosity and cheaper price. In addition, isostatic graphite blocks have higher elastic modulus and compressive strength than extruded graphite blocks. Due to its higher strength, it is more wear-resistant than extruded graphite.
Third, in terms of application, isostatic graphite blocks are mainly used in applications where performance and reliability are critical, such as aerospace, nuclear energy, furnace components, electronic equipment and semiconductor industries. Extruded graphite is a good choice when cost is the main consideration and the properties of isostatic graphite are not necessary.
