High Density Cast Carbon Graphite Mold

High density cast carbon graphite mold is high-performance carbon graphite materials produced through a special molding process. They possess characteristics such as fine microstructure, low porosity, high strength, and excellent thermal and electrical conductivity. Compared to ordinary graphite, they exhibit superior corrosion resistance, wear resistance, and high-temperature stability, thus playing an irreplaceable role in numerous industrial applications.

In metallurgical processes, the most typical application of high-density cast carbon graphite mold is as crystallizers in continuous metal casting. In modern continuous metal casting technology, molten metal is directly poured into a crystallizer made of this graphite, where it rapidly cools and solidifies. Due to the extremely high thermal conductivity of high-density graphite (up to 110-150 W/(m·K)), it can quickly dissipate heat, achieving rapid solidification of the metal. This eliminates the need for traditional secondary heating and rolling processes, significantly saving energy. For example, in the continuous casting process of copper profiles and cast iron, this type of graphite mold not only ensures the surface finish of the casting, but its fine-grained structure and high strength also allow it to withstand the thermal shock and friction of the molten metal, significantly extending its service life.

In high-temperature or corrosive environments where traditional lubricants cannot withstand them, high-density cast carbon graphite mold, with their excellent self-lubricating properties, have become ideal materials for mechanical seals and bearings. For example, in gas turbine engines, it is used as a high-temperature oil seal, protecting compressor bearings under high-speed friction of 150 m/s and high temperatures of 600°C. In chemical pumps, it is used as a sealing ring for conveying corrosive fluids, utilizing its high chemical corrosion resistance to resist acid and alkali corrosion. It can even be found in the cylinder heads of racing engines and the water pump seals of household washing machines.

The good electrical conductivity and chemical inertness of high-density graphite molds make them shine in the electrical and new energy fields. In traditional electrical applications, it is processed into motor carbon brushes, blast furnace heating elements, and electrodes for electrical discharge machining. With the rise of the new energy industry, it has become a core material for bipolar plates, a key component of hydrogen fuel cells, enabling precise distribution of hydrogen and air and efficient electron conduction. Simultaneously, it is also used as a current collector in new energy storage devices such as vanadium redox flow batteries, where its extremely low corrosion rate ensures a lifespan of over 20 years for the energy storage system.
